Authorship & Contributorship Policy
The Journal of Meat Science (JMS) follows the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and adopts the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system to ensure transparency in author contributions.

1. Authorship Criteria (ICMJE)
To qualify as an author, each contributor must meet all four of the following criteria:

Make substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data

Draft the manuscript or critically revise it for important intellectual content
-
Approve the final version to be published
-
Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work
Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged but not listed as authors.
2. CRediT Contributor Roles
Authors must specify individual contributions using the CRediT taxonomy, which may include:

Conceptualization

Methodology
-
Investigation
-
Data Curation
-
Formal Analysis
-
Writing – Original Draft
-
Writing – Review & Editing
-
Supervision
-
Project Administration
-
Funding Acquisition
The contribution statement will be published with the article when applicable.
3. Changes in Authorship
Requests for changes in authorship (addition, removal, or change in order of authors) must:

Be submitted in writing to the editorial office

Include a justification for the change
-
Include signed consent from all listed authors
Changes in authorship after manuscript acceptance will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
4. Ghostwriting and Guest Authorship
Ghostwriting, guest authorship, and honorary authorship are not permitted.
If authorship misconduct is identified, the journal may take appropriate action, including:

Manuscript rejection

Publication of corrections
-
Retraction of the article
-
Notification to institutions where appropriate
