Abstract

Tonsillitis is one of the commonest infectious illnesses of upper respiratory tract. Chronic tonsillitis is one of the most common otolaryngologic diseases.1 It is common in young children rather than infants and old people. Mostly it affects children between 3 to 10 years.2,3 Aetiology of tonsillitis is still not clear in spiteof its high prevalence. Tonsils are part of the immune system. Therefore, due to the decrease in immunity and the tonsils’ incompetency in helping the immune system, they actually become a source of recurrent infections. In the modern science the generally accepted criteria is to remove the tonsils but cohort population based study in Denmark on 1189061 children suggests that the children with tonsillectomy had 2- to 3-fold increase in diseases of the upper respiratory tract. 17% increased risk of infectious diseases had been noticed in children with adenotonsillectomy.4,5 Homoeopathy’s symptomatic approach towards such diseases not only reduces the recurrence of the infection but also improves the immunity.
