Human society has seen a paradigm shift starting from Hunting Age (1.0), to farming age (agriculture, 2.0), transitively transforming to industrial age (3.0) and later moving to information age (4.0). In the 20th century, with the technological advancements when hardware cost has started dipping and software was not only concise to the desktop application but was designed to be used by a group of people working on a network has opened the horizons of Information age also addressed as the Computer Era or the Digital Era. The software market has received positive feedback from the people. Citizens of all nations started relying heavily on computers for data storage and retrieval. Programming languages have been around for so many years, and every decade sees the launch of a new language with new features and enhancement.
The research paper has been written with a quest to find out the relevance and significance of the programming language “Python” in varied areas and its impact on society. Society 5.0 is an amalgamation of these 9 technologies like Big Data Analytics, IoT or IIoT (Industrial Internet of Thing), Cyber Security, Autonomous Robots, Additive Manufacturing, Simulation, Horizontal & Vertical System Integration, the Cloud, Augmented Reality. In this paper, the authors emphasize on the evolution of python, features of python, the role of python in various disciplines and trending areas of Information Technology like Web Development, IoT Applications, Machine Learning, Data Science, etc. In a recent Stack Overflow survey [20], it is found that Python has taken over languages such as Java, C, C++ and has made its way to the top third position. This paper also sheds light on the pertinent topic like why python has being credited as the fastest-growing programming language.
